What is WireUP!?
WireUP! is a youth engagement project develped by the Commonwealth Internet Governance Forum, with a view to engage youth in discussions relating to the Internet and its governance.
WireUP! Pilot Project
A pilot project was run in 2011 in the UK in collaboration with the Journalism Department at theĀ University for the Creative Arts, Farnham, UK. A briefing day was organised where students were introduced to concepts relating to workings of the Internet and why we should all have some knowledge of this. They were also briefed on the role of the CIGF. Students were then asked to produce Multimedia content on any of the topics discussed during their briefing day. Submissions were published on the CIGF website with a view to create discussion. The most relevant and best structured of the entries was awarded a prize. Last year’s best entry was awarded an internship as the CIGF’s official correspondent at the IGF in Nairobi.
WireUP! 2012
Our youth engagement project will be running its first official edition during the year of 2012. Requests to participate in this exciting youth engagement project will be received from across the Commonwealth. The theme for this year will be Cybercrime, in support of the CIGF’s Cybercrime Initiative.
Project Model
Each project will run for a period of three weeks, which will begin with a briefing day and workshop. The briefing day is organised by the respectie educational institution and is overseen by the CIGF Secretariat.
Students are provided with a briefing pack and asked to produce Multimedia content with a view to generate debate on the CIGF website. The theme for 2012 is Cybercrime.
The best structured, argued, relevant and most creative contribution will be entered in a draw of all countries participating in WireUP! 2012. All content submitted under the WireUP! umbrella will enter into a final adjudication. We encourage broad participatioin. Individual setups will be coordinated by the CIGF secretariat.
A best entry of our WireUP! project will be established by a panel of judges in June/July 2012. Prizes will be established at a later date and will depend on how broad the participatin of this edition will be.

Requests to run WireUP! youth engagement project are being received till 31st January 2012. Please send requests via email to Ms. Lara Pace (lara.pace@comnet.org.mt).
wow.. That great.
Hi,
This is a great idea and I would like to join and be part of this project. We are in the information age and technological era and anything to protect us from cybercrime is worth the effort.
Cheers,
Tanielu.
